gonna see how long i can go before i get bored, and then i'll compile it into a small zine for OCAD Zine Fair in March.

watching a lot of animu and animushins lately and they have good soundtracks!!!
i like these songs a lot so i made an 8tracksmix and drew this drawing of my face for it and what a nice coincidence; openings&endings sounds kind of perfect for the new year. maybe endings&openings would have been better for the whole newyearstheme, but i was referencing more OPs and EDs of all the animays i've been watching because that is what these songs are. for the most part.

two hot tempered, short fused rivals who happened to wear the same outfit to school and decided to fight for their right to be the sole wearer of said outfit

initially i wanted to draw a pre-fight scene where they'd just bumped into each other (while wearing the same shirt). the concept/imagery didn't seem strong enough though.

i really loved the subtle shoulder bump / deathglare imagery so i went back to it briefly.

i also really liked the fight scene, but it seemed too static and didn't tie back to the idea of colliding galaxies (and i also didn't know what to do with the background), so i decided to make it more of a circular shape to make it seem like they're even more tangled. they also look more like actual colliding spiral galaxies this way.

i blew up my tiny sketches, printed it out, and did a more finalized linear on tracing paper so i could transfer it onto watercolour paper.

i like that with tracing paper it's light enough so the pencil won't be visible once i paint over it, and i can still kind of keep the quality of my smaller sketches.

i spent a long time painting the skin. ; ____ ; it didn't used to take forever. i think i prefer it without the blue/brown shadows though! the past few years i've always painted skin with yellow, red, and blue, but now i might try only yellow and red. it looks more fresh? hmmmmmmm.

i have a really bad habit of reusing art over and over again for a million different purposes. i've probably turned all of my finished work into prints, buttons, stickers, and patterns. can't stop won't stop.

this was originally a drawing i made for my first litho project! wanted to see how many of my favourite icons/symbols/objects i could mash together in one image.

i made a pattern out of it and printed it (digitally?) on white and fawn stonehenge paper!

a fancily edited (err instagram'd) photo of one of my litho prints. litho's a lot harder than i ever imagined it would be. u___u i really love how each print still holds the same quality of a pencil drawing though! i love that you can make a million reproductions of a single drawing but they'd all still be original. :>

used the pattern to make myself an 80page sketchbook!
i'm planning to make more of these to sell in the near future, so any tips on pricing would be more than amazing! i'm thinking $15-$20 CAD right now. what kind of paper do you guys like in your sketchbooks/what size? O:

hello blogspot! i've been away for the past month which sort of explains why i haven't put in any effort to keep this corner of the internet alive. i'm back and incredibly jet lagged though! c: i'm really behind with posting work i completed near the end of the school year ( i can't even update my website because my dreamweaver trial expired hahaaaaaa ) so LOOK AT ALL THESE THINGS I MADE NEAR THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR!

i didn't realize how overboard i went with the details on this until i'd finished etching and started to do prints. whoops. during critique, my professor suggested pushing back the background by darkening it with watercolours. going to try doing that as soon as can get access to the studios again! also need to find a better way to make the stars. i used talc, but it got really clumpy, and my application was too messy.

i should also try a little harder to be more accurate with my paper cutting and registration next time. :U

this isn't incredibly successful, but it's supposed to be Toru's view from the bottom of the well. i'll probably re-do it later.
I really loved the imagery of Toru viewing a half-moon when he looks up from the bottom of a well, as well as the complete darkness he experiences when May Kasahara covers the top of the well entirely.

haha i'm particularly pleased with how the STUDY HARD! book turned out and the purple of that keyboard (is that what you'd call a yummy purple?).

really glad my watercolours are improving a bit! the past three years i've been so used to upping the colours of a painting in photoshop and then getting it printed since the colours in the original always look a bit dull and muddy. with my last two pieces i'm actually more pleased with the originals than the printed/photoshopped version! i've somehow managed to make the colours in my paintings more vibrant than before?
BUT i also realized that i reallyreallyREALLY need to work on backgrounds and type. both are terrible since i rarely do either. :I

also been drawing a lot of myself as a pkmn trainer. i'm actually reallyreally surprised with how much i love the new Gen (both the game and most of the new pkmn). i drew this right after i caught four solosis. my favourite solosis is TANK, but he's since evolved into reuniclus!!! so happy.

i think if i'd been able to achieve the same thickness as i did with pencil, i'd be a lot happier with the etching. a lot of the finer details were lost because my lines were way too thin. :c i also probably should've left it in the acid for a little longer. :u

i have a new scanner! \o/
after four complicated and incredibly frustrating years with my old canon printer-scanner, it finally crapped out on me right before the new semester began. worst timing or perfect timing?? i do not know.
this new scanner is superfast though! it even scans my paintings a million times more vibrant than they actually are! can't really say if this is a good or bad thing yet... :'D

my secret santee this year was IUUUUUUULES!
classes ended really early this year, so i had more time to work on the handmade part of her present! i made a (fully functional!!) paper doll of her and some of her Lolita outfits. with a bit of maneuvering, the clothes and accessories can actually fit onto the doll! haha it was pretty exciting the first time i tried it out! they don't fit as nicely as i would have liked ( i didn't make enough tabs, and the placement of the tabs themselves don't really allow for the pieces to sit securely on the doll :c ) BUT THAT'S OKAY BECAUSE IT'S MY FIRST ONE AND THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER FROM HERE, RIGHT?
i'm pretty proud of it, and i think i'm going to make a few for my own characters too! MAYBE SELL EM? (pre-cut/not)

both sets were done in drypoint and watercolour!
same character drawn in two different styles and placed in 3 different settings. (playing around with how the story of a character changes based on the environment that surrounds them)

preview of the paper doll version of the same character! i have this problem where i name any somewhat badass female character i come up with Frankie. and they all have the same innerthigh bruise/scar >:I FAFA YOU ARE RUINING EVERYTHING.
this was the first print i made with the aluminum plate. i made some lines deeper and used a sortof à la poupée method for the final 3 prints.
tinytinytiny. etching this at 3am was a pain. if i had more time i would have liked to cut it all out and make little paper sets as well.
i still have two huge aluminum sheets hanging out in my room sooooooooooooooo if i find a way to print at home, THINGS WILL BE WONDERFUL.

some prints i've made in the past two weeks of class!

a four layer screenprint for the first project. definitely didn't expect it to be as hard as it was. haha you really have to plan every last detail ahead of time, which is something i am not used to AT ALL. :'9 if there was more time i would have played around more with the colours and layers, but overall i'm pretty okay with it.

and drypoint!! my new found love. ; u ; really happy with how these turned out. i just hope the piece i'm doing for my second project ( Aron Wiesenfeld-inspired ) turns out even better.

i'm hoping to find a printmaking studio somewhere in toronto for relatively cheap. the printmaking studios in the school are closed for the summer since there won't be any more classes, and it also kind of sucks that students who aren't taking any printmaking courses aren't allowed in the studios during the regular school year. i understand why, but it would be nice if i could use these techniques for illustration projects! thinking about the possibility of taking a minor in printmaking, since i'm planning to do thesis in 5th year instead of 4th now. :v

haven't been updating or drawing much lately. the past few weeks have been really busy! roadtrip to NYC for 4 days was UHHHMAZING. we ate a lot of reallydelicious things, and saw Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell in A Behanding in Spokane~
i never knew there was an American Folk Art Museum though!! really wish it wasn't closed when we went because they have two Henry Darger exhibitions right now!

maybe i'm getting it entirely wrong, but i really love seeing a sort of French illustration influence on his work. especially Moebius'! ahhh really excited that my Taiyo Matsumoto collection is growing haha~ i can only hope that some day it'll look similar (or even more massive) than this.

butyes! hopefully the drawfu will come back to me this weekend so i can ACTUALLY UPDATE THIS BLAWRGH with real art.

poster assignment for der film The City of Lost Children
lines were done with watercolour inks, scanned, cleaned up a bit, then the huge colour blob in the center (huge mistake D8) and the pixelated ones surrounding it were photoshopped in, and then the image was printed onto watercolour paper, where i watercoloured everything else.
the Kinkos nearest to my house is a disaster. it's the only one that's not open 24/7 and the only one that won't print on watercolour paper. :III

yeaaaaaso the white line that runs through the image is the result of me thinking i was so clever at 6am by cutting my art in half so i could fit it into a scanner. YEA NEVER DOING THAT AGAIN. though i'm pretty sure this is the second time this year i've cut something in half thinking i could scan both parts and put it back together on photoshop. :/

i wish i had more time to colour it the way i wanted, but for the project, i only coloured a couple characters in the middle shades of red so that when you look from far away, you can see the shape of a heart? i'll colour each individual character sometime soon, and do a new pattern too since the figures don't really match up too well for a repeating pattern. :c
